To improve physical and thermal properties of HDPE, starch extracted from nonedible dioscorria tubers are using. Starch is a highly abundant biopolymer in earth which is available in many forms. Dioscorea tubers have rich source of starch and they are available in Kerala in plenty. The study aims at developing bio composites of polyethylene with starch from different Dioscorea tubers as reinforcements. Chemical modification of the starch and introduction of a compatibilizer to improve the miscibility of starch and polyethylene will be studied. The physical and mechanical properties of the composite materials will be studied as function of the type and amount of starch in the composites.
